Barrick looks to combat HIV/Aids

Barrick Gold Corporation has revealed that its ability to provide healthcare services to people in Africa has been enhanced.
The firm is working in partnership with the African Medical and Research Foundation (Amref) to help those at risk from HIV/Aids.
Barrick made the announcement during an event to celebrate Amref's 50th anniversary and praised the work of the organisation.
In particular it lauded Amref for helping it to help those who are at risk from HIV/Aids in Tanzania where Barrick has a number of gold mines.
"At Barrick, responsible mining is a non-negotiable for us. As part of this commitment, we have always understood that we have a direct stake in the health of the communities where we operate," said president of Barrick, Greg Wilkins.
"That is why our partnership with Amref is so vitally important to us. We recognise that our success is tied to your success."
The firm's commitment to the health of locals in Africa comes on the back of its 2006 Responsibility Report, in which it looked at its own environmental, social and health and safety performance.
