Gold coins up for grabs in US reality land

Reality television stars in the United States have the chance to get their hands on a prize of gold coins.
Contestants in the latest show to hit the US, Pirate Master, will battle it out to be both captain of a pirate ship and winner of the overall programme prize, $500,000 (£253,000).
Another $500,000 will be on offer, split between the weeks of the show, meaning there is plenty of gold bounty to be gained by the contestants on board the ship.
"The coins are also a usable commodity after you've won it," said host Cameron Daddo, commenting on the weekly prizes, according to the New York Daily News.
"So if a pirate wins, say, $20,000 worth of gold in the first episode, he can use that money to bribe, to win favour or to create a pact with somebody else."
The show is said to be influenced by hit reality programme Survivor and popular movie franchise Pirates of the Caribbean.
National Geographic recently announced it was launching an exhibition to tour the US featuring gold recovered from the wreck of a real pirate ship, the Whydah.
