Resolute's Golden Pride mine in Tanzania's Nzega district has sponsored a training programme for entrepreneurs, it has emerged.

According to IPPMedia, the gold company has sponsored workshops in villages surrounding the mine and has given villagers funding and working tools to facilitate entrepreneurial activity.

Villages including Kilabili, Bujulu, Undomu, Batnadula, Ikundwa, Malolo and Ibadamadu are said to be in receipt of the funding.

According to the report, efforts to support community life around the mine have also included a donation to Upendo women's group in support of its participation in the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair earlier this year.

Golden Pride is located 750km north-west of the port of Dar es Salaam and has been subject to additional drilling over the past year.

The mine produced 145,043 ounces of gold during the 2006 financial year, the company reports, with increased output expected over the coming year.
