Gold Reserve enters into environmental responsibility agreement

Canadian mining company Gold Reserve has entered into an agreement with the not for profit environmental organisation Conservation International (CI) to help preserve biodiversity in and around its Brisas Project in Venezuela.
Under the partnership the environmental impacts of the project will be constantly monitored and action will be taken to mitigate or offset these impacts.
Gold Reserve will have to carry out regular biodiversity assessments in order to better understand the biodiversity of the area and therefore protect it more effectively.
It will also have to undertake work designed to encourage and empower local communities to take a sustainable approach towards agro-forestry.
Doug Belanger, president of Gold Reserve, said: "Our strong relationship with CI will empower our employees and provide them substantial experience while furthering the company's commitment to the Equator Principles and responsible environmental stewardship."
The Brisas property is a development-stage gold and copper mineralised deposit situated in the Bolivar State in south east Venezuela near the small community of Las Claritas.
