Dubai sees festive gold rush

Thursday 20th 2007f December, 2007
The Christmas season is refreshing the phrase 'gold rush' in the minds of Dubai retailers, it has been reported.

Stores are enjoying strong gold sales as people flock to buy jewellery and other luxury products for their loved ones, reports Gulf News.

Quoting figures from gold industry practitioners suggesting a ten to 15 per cent rise in gold sales during the month of December, the report indicates that the Dubai Shopping Festival is set to drive this strong performance into the new year.

Beginning on January 24th, What's On When asserts that a wide variety of shopping and entertainment options are available until the festival's end on February 24th - including a Gold Souq at Sikkat al-Khali.

Sarwat Abdul Razzak, chief executive officer of ARY Academy of Gems and Jewellery, told Gulf News: "A lot of people come to Dubai for tourism during the holidays and almost all of them buy jewellery since we offer a variety of beautiful designs and Dubai is known as the City of Gold."
