Gold mining 'seeks to recruit more women'

A new conference is to highlight the mining industry's efforts in the field of equal opportunities.
The Ontario Mining Association is hosting the event, entitled Demographics, Global Markets and the Future Workforce.
Methods of increasing female participation in the sector are to be at the core of a session on mining's future workforce.
The association points out that the drive to recruit 80,000 newly skilled workers in Canada over the next decade is to be pinned down by a focus on equal opportunities.
As part of the conference, David Foot, author of Boom, Bust and Echo, is to act as featured speaker.
The event takes place in Ontario's Windsor from June 9th-11th, with details on sponsorship and registration as well as a comprehensive timetable are to be made available in the new year.
With members including Barrick Gold and Kinross Gold, the Ontario Mining Association states its aim as supporting and improving competition in the sector.
