Renaissance-inspired gold 'big in Italy'

Tuesday 29th 2008f January, 2008
Ornate gold jewellery inspired by the Renaissance is popular in Italy at the moment, a new report observes.

Reuters suggests that jewellery in Italy is currently characterised by elaborate design, with consumers eager to buy intricate and luxurious accessories crafted from the precious metal.

The World Gold Council's Daniela Invernizzi told the news provider that trends in the European fashion capital are tending towards large but light gold pieces.

"If you flick through fashion magazines you will see an abundance of jewellery, even redundancy of it with layers and layers of chains, for instance," Ms Invernizzi said.

And balancing this fashion is an alternative taste for minimalist pieces in Italy, especially in the high-end market, she adds.

She was speaking as an international gold fair takes place in the northern Italian area of Vicenza.

IDEX reports that gold is a prominent presence at the Vicenza fair.
