The Indian city of Rajkot is famed for its abundance of good quality gold jewellery.
A new report in Thaindian News reveals that the throes of shoppers who visit the Gujarat city to purchase gold are characterised by people looking for wedding jewellery, who come from all over the world to buy items made in the accessory hub.
Gold jewellery made in Rajkot is handmade rather than being produced by a machine, which the publication claims is one of its main attractions for buyers looking for something special.
"Jewellery from Rajkot is famous all over the world. People of Rajkot as well as others from various parts of the country including Ahmedabad, Baroda and Gujarat come here to buy exquisite jewellery," Ashokbhai, a local accessory exporter, told the publication.
It reportedly takes between five and ten days to make a full jewellery set to the city's standard, with creators in the urban centre always aware of the latest trends in product design.
Rajkot is the fourth largest city in Gujarat and is ranked 22nd in a list of urban areas projected to grow between 2006 and 2020.
