More than 220 gold and jewellery retailers display their wares at Dubai Mall's new gold souk, which will be the largest indoor market of its kind, according to TradeArabia News Service.
Composed of an array of winding corridors and courtyards, the souk is intended to evoke the traditional experience of Arabian shopping, as well as celebrating the history of the gold trade in the region, Northpoint architects explained.
The market's decorations enhance the shopper's experience, featuring large bronze camel sculptures, a starry sky, and gold and marble detailing.
"Both a tourist attraction and a jewellery shopper's paradise, the gold souk adds to the overall entertainment factor of the Dubai Mall," commented general manager Yousif Al Ali.
Various cafes and restaurants can also be found within the market, as well as an atrium displaying changing multimedia exhibits.
The Dubai Mall is set to open to the public on August 28th 2008.
