Gold strawberry at Elton's bash

Artist Mark Quinn has paid homage to the strawberry - a symbol of summer decadence for many Brits - by transforming it into a gold necklace.

The British sculptor took a strawberry from a Marks & Spencer punnet, cast it in gold, covered it in gems and turned it into a necklace for his wife Georgia to wear at Elton John's recent White Tie & Tiara Ball, according to the Telegraph.

Sparkling jewellery was reportedly in abundance at the flamboyant ball, at which even a gold strawberry may have failed to turn heads.

"Nothing could dampen the spirits of the 630 party-goers at £3,000 a head for the 10th annual White Tie & Tiara Ball, nor dull the sparkle of the amazing jewels which glittered in the cavalcade of bronzed cleavage, shimmering in the candle-lit setting," noted the newspaper.

Naomi's Campbell's jewellery looked as if it could "fund a general election", the publication asserted.

Mark Quinn was responsible for the statue of Alison Lapper that adorned Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth in 2005.
