A museum in the town of Dutch Flat, California, houses a variety of artefacts dating back to the state's gold rush days.
Mining tools, railroad items, native American projectile points and a tin top hat are among the pieces displayed at the Golden Drift Museum, reports the Colfax Record.
Doug Ferrier, president of the Golden Drift Historical Society, told the publication that the aim of the facility is to educate people about the history of the area and the significance of gold to the town's heritage.
"My hobby is the history of the area," he commented.
"Some of the society are members of long time families that have lived in the area. Some are people who have just moved to the area who have an interest in the history," Mr Ferrier added.
Jean Binder, one of the society's 190 members, told the newspaper that a belief in community activity was behind her interest in the endeavour.
Dutch Flat was the site of significant gold discoveries during the gold rush and is located in the Placer County area of California.
