A new map could pave the way for more effective gold mining, it has emerged.
The three-dimensional map, developed by the Geological Survey of Queensland and researchers at James Cook University, is computer-generated and will help explorers in the search for gold, Industrial IT reports.
Geoff Wilson, Queensland's mines and energy minister, unveiled three-dimensional model of the Northern Drummond Basin in Central Queensland recently, stating that the mines are known for having been rich in minerals and that there is potential for deeper underground exploration.
The map will provide a clearer picture of underground resources by creating a view of the way in which underground layers mix with folds and faults in the earth.
James Cook University has an exploratory ethos, taking its name from the 18th century navigator and voyager Captain James Cook.
Results based on the new model are to be released later this year, according to the news provider.
