Gold charm bracelet launched to raise cancer awareness

Friday 29th 2008f August, 2008
A limited-edition gold charm bangle aimed at raising awareness of cervical cancer has been released.

The Charm 4 Life bracelet is designed by jewellery company Alex and Ani, with help from Merck & Co.

It is featured in this month's Vogue magazine, as reported by Pharma's Market, a blog hosted by CNBC.com.

Available in Russian gold, the unique expandable bangles have charms decorated with the Chinese peony flower, a symbol of peace, feminine beauty and reproduction.

They cost $32 (£17) and proceeds will benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation (PCF).

On the Pharma's Market blog, Mike Huckman said of Merck & Co: "It's interesting that Merck is shifting from what's called a branded ad campaign to a disease awareness campaign."

The PCF recently awarded around $720 to various research projects, which were selected from a pool of 77 applications across America.
