Gold shamrocks are to be sold in the US as part of a new fundraising campaign to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).Between February 9th and St Patrick's Day on March 17th, customers at Hardee's restaurants in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky will be encouraged to buy a green or gold shamrock.
All the shamrocks sold, complete with the customer's signature, will be hung in St Patrick Day displays at the participating locations.
A portion of the total money raised will go towards sending children to MDA summer camps, where they can enjoy the great outdoors and develop independence and confidence.
Jerry Allsbrook, MDA national vice-president and chief marketing officer for Hardee's owner Boddie-Noell Enterprises said: "Every year, we're amazed at the commitment of our employees and customers in support this fundraising event for children."
MDA is a non-profit organisation that is the largest non-governmental sponsor of research into neuromuscular disease in the US.
Headquartered in Tuscon, Arizona, the organisation has 200 offices, sponsors 220 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports around 400 research projects worldwide.
