Fairfax County Police are keen to trace the owners of a collection of recovered jewellery that includes a gold ring.Mason Police District Station, Virginia, is urging members of the public to get in touch of they believe the pieces belong to them.
Among the collection is a ring inscribed with the year 1866, 18 necklaces, 31 pairs of earrings, 18 broaches, 11 bracelets, seven watches, 16 more rings and a number of pendants and odd earrings.
More than 100 pieces of jewellery were recovered in 2003 when a female caregiver was charged with grand larceny.
However, officers are concerned that many of the rightful owners may since have passed away.
Elsewhere, Scottish singer Paolo Nutini has told the Daily Record that he misplaced the gold ring that had belonged to his great-grandfather and passed down through the generations in a bathroom in Glasgow Airport.
The artist took it off to put on some hair gel and forgot about and when staff returned to look it was gone.
He is now urging anyone who thinks they have found it to come forwards.
