A Birmingham exhibition of items from the gold Staffordshire Hoard has had 20 new objects added to it.Coming shortly after new artefacts were also added to the sister display at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent, the latest additions include a gold buckle, a torn gold hilt plate and a gold plaque with animal interlace.
Councillor Martin Mullaney of Birmingham City Council said the exhibition has been extremely popular so far.
"Interest in the hoard has been phenomenal and with the new exhibition we've been able to exhibit artefacts to much greater effect," he commented.
Detailed conservation work is set to begin on items from the treasure next month. This will involve carefully cleaning the artefacts and looking for any significant organic evidence on them.
Filigree snakes, sword hilt collars, helmet fragments and a possible inlay decoration from a drinking horn are among the newest additions to the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition in Stoke.
